Catching Caerus in New Hampshire October 23rd - 26th
Day 1
On my first day when I headed to New Hampshire it was thus far the worst travel day I’ve experienced. My friend Neil and I were suppose to leave Austin at 6 a.m. to fly to Dallas with intention of being in Boston by 3 p.m. Our flight to Dallas was canceled due to severe thunderstorms. We got an exchange flight to head to Chicago at 2:45 p.m. Not only did we have to exchange airlines but the flight didn’t end up leaving till 6 pm, which is now 12 hours later, also due to weather conditions. As if that wasn’t enough, when we get to Boston we find out our bags have been lost due to the flight changes, but there was a silver lining because luckily I did have my camera equipment with me. We got a rental car and proceeded to head to Manchester, New Hampshire. I was so tired from traveling that I crashed immediately after arriving.
Day 2
Was a breeze compared to day 1. We headed to Derry, New Hampshire to have breakfast at the famous Mary Ann's Restaurant where I had eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, pancakes and orange juice. Afterward we headed back home and went to supervise Andy and the gang put his roof together out in the freezing cold. Later I showed the gang how the 3DR Solo drone worked by flying it around the neighborhood, and producing some nice shots of the bright fall colors. After a nap we decided to head to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner. Once we headed home we planned out the route for our next day which was taking us to various covered bridges in New Hampshire and Vermont.
day 3
Our trip started in Manchester New Hampshire where we traveled north west up interstate 93. We were headed to the Covered Bridge Cruise which is sponsored by NE Motorsport which is not only a car forum, but New England’s fastest growing motorsport community. It was previously owned by my good friend/body guard Neal Lafferty. All proceeds for the biannual car cruises go to Make a Wish Foundation, which is all the more reason to give it a go. Our first covered bridge was Rowell which was located on highway 127. Rowell’s Bridge is in West Hopkinton, New Hampshire and opened in 1852. During our touring antics I crashed my drone into the bridge whilst trying to get footage of it, I lost GPS location which caused the crash. We missed the Henniker Covered Bridge but continued to the Bement Covered Bridge. The Bement Covered Bridge is a wooden covered bridge over the Warner River in Bradford, New Hampshire. It was built in 1854 and is the third bridge on the site. Once finished with Bement Bridge we drove up through Newbury and passed Santa’s Junk Shop and continued to Newport where we stopped for lunch at Village Pizza which serves a variety of Italian dishes such as spaghetti, pizza, calzones and sandwiches. On our next stretch northwest we visited 3 more covered bridges including: Dingleton Hill Bridge, Blacksmith Shop covered bridge (both of which were constructed in the 1880’s) and Cornish Windsor Covered Bridge which was constructed in 1866. It was at that location that we had the best view of all the bridges. There was an awesome sunset and view into Vermont right across the Connecticut River. After our long, yet fun journey of checking out the covered bridges we headed back to Manchester and had dinner at the Puritan Backroom Restaurant which served a variety of American dishes but it best known for their chicken tenders.
Day 4
Was our last one there. We woke up early to head to the Atlantic Ocean and then Boston to enjoy the city a bit before we took on our flight. We started off with breakfast at the famous Red Arrow American Diner and then visited Hampton Beach which was my very first time getting up close and personal with the ocean. It was an awesome experience to be able to watch the waves crash ashore and feel the ice cold October water. Once we hit Boston we walked around downtown and saw a few historic sites including the Boston Massacre site and the Faneuil Hall Marketplace. It was another fun journey and shortly after we headed back to the good ol’ Lone Star State.
