New Hampshire May 19th-23rd 2016
Day 1
My May adventure has brought me back to New Hampshire. Great friends, a ton of laughs and a good cause made this one quite enjoyable to say the least. My departure from Austin was a hot one after having had picked up Neal from Killeen, we covered some drone talk for the trip. At the airport we were flagged by TSA for our drone backpacks. This is something that happens often to me, but Neal wasn’t so use to it. The flight was a 4 hour breeze of listening to music, eating snacks and reading some of The 50th Law By Robert Greene and Curtis Jackson. Around 11 p.m. we arrived in Boston Massachusetts and as we picked up our rental car the person working there remembered me from my last trip and gave me a nice hook up on the rental car. It was an hour drive to Manchester, New Hampshire and we did nothing more than rest for our upcoming antics the next day. Life lesson of the day: Make lasting impressions on people. Good ones of course because you never know when it can work out in your favor.
Day 2
We started off the morning right with some delicious breakfast at Mary Ann’s diner. After reaching “fat man” status we headed with full stomach’s to English Range Rd to visit Neal’s childhood home. After going down memory lane we headed to pick up goodies like candy, shirts and cup holders for the cruise goody bags the following day. Later on that night we ate dinner at a Chinese buffet, which was a disappointment, and the name shall not be mentioned. After dinner we went home and folded shirts and planned the route for the cruise on Sunday followed by me finally getting to bed around 5 a.m.
Day 3
We focused solely on prep work for the next day’s cruise event. We spent our time putting together the goody bags, assembly line style, that we had purchased the day before and after finally finishing that we did the typical ‘Merica thing; a BBQ with friends, burgers and hot dogs with lots of jokes and laughter. I’d say that’s a pretty good ending to an already great day.
Day 4
Started off with lightning speed early morning, not just metaphorically but our driver Andy got a $248 speeding ticket as well. We headed to New Hampshire Technical Institute Concord's Community College and got started at 8:30 a.m. with registration for all cars. All registrants received goody bags that included instructions for the cruise, NEMotorSport t-shirt, car registration ‘back to the future’ sticker, NEMotorSport decal stickers and some candy. As mentioned in a previous blog, my friend Neal previously owned NEMotorSports and the cruise took place to raise money for donations to the Make A Wish Foundation. This year’s Make A Wish beneficiary was Seth Jones the magician. A raffle followed shortly after with gifts that included a free car alignment, a free set of wheels and $350.
The roll out for the cruise was around 10:30 a.m. and our first stop was Moore reservoir. Around 12:30 we took a lunch break at Pizza Hut and then drove past the White Mountains which a pretty cool sight to see. We also did what they call the “hurricane run” which is a term they use for driving through hurricane mountain road which is a winding road through Merriman State Forest. It is a super narrow and bumpy road that is two lanes, has steep turns and is fun to drive. Once we passed that we reached our second destination which was Fryeburg Maine Weston Beach. We decided to grab dinner at our final stop which was at the Woodstock Station. I had the kitchen sink nachos and the steak and cheese bomb, which is their take on the Philly cheese steak. We went into the night with a ton of fun and jokes. After these 4 adventure filled days I took my flight home the next morning where I proceeded to drop Neal off at his house and back to the working world for me for a bit.
