Fishing in the Gulf of Mexico

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

June 8th - June 9th 2016

DAY 1

My endless ventures took me to Port Aransas, Texas this time around. Port Aransas is the only established town on Mustang Island, and is located on the Texas Gulf Coast. On day 1 I picked up the birthday boy Edgar at 11 a.m. and we drove 3 hours to Port Aransas. We met up at the hotel with the crew for drinks; Mary, Edna, Ryan, Gus, Richard, Frank & Josie joined us. We headed to the beach around 4 p.m. where all played volleyball, swam in the ocean, had a BBQ and shared plenty of laughs and had a bunch of fun the whole night. Later on we all went to sleep and prepared ourselves for our 6 a.m. fishing trip that we were going to have in the Gulf of Mexico.

DAY 2

I woke up at 5 a.m. and we all drove to the boarding dock to get our passes to board the boat. While we waited the mosquitoes destroyed us one by one. After we boarded we rode to our first fishing location about a hour and a half out. It was my first time in a boat on the ocean and the views were awesome from both the top and bottom decks. The water looked amazing and watching the sun rise up was magnificent. I napped on the top deck where it also rained on us. I did feel a little sea sick but I didn’t throw up, luckily no one did. I caught the second largest red snapper at the first location and it was my first time seeing electric fishing poles. Real life cheat codes?

After about 10 hours of fishing we headed back to the docks where we had our catches filleted. Frank won the competition for biggest catch with a prize of $300 and an article with a picture in the newspaper. At dinner time we all met up a Castaways Seafood & Grill where I had a fish basket with fries and onion rings, all of which tasted really good. After dinner Edgar and I headed back to Austin. It was one of the worst drives I’ve had because I was so tired. A 3 hour drive turned into a 5 hour drive because I stopped for rest numerous times. But we survived and finally made it back around 2 a.m.

I immediately crashed in bed afterwards.
