Music Video Shooting in ATL

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

2018 has finally arrived; LOL, it has been here but I have been busy traveling, and filming, and photographing, and now playing catch up. So it didn’t take long for me to make my first trip. Fitting for the new year, my travels took me to new places with familiar faces. My adventures lead me to Atlanta, Georgia this time around, and although short, it was a dope experience worth every moment.

Day 1

As per usual, it all started with an early 6 a.m. day in Austin, Texas on 2/23/18. I had an effortless check in at the airport and a short 2 hour flight to the Peach State. When I landed, I took a LYFT ride with Delonte to Marietta,GA and had good conversation about my travels around the world and SXSW; networking during my ride.

Mid-morning I finally met up with my friend Tejai, whom I’ve known since my high school days. We caught up on life at his house, while I played catch and dodge the nerf bullets with his son for a while. After that we sat down to have our first discussion about music video ideas, which resulted in our trip to the mall shortly after. While we there, we picked up throwback jerseys and bandannas to replicate a early 2000’s Nelly kind of vibe. And lastly, I picked up a few gifts for the little one, who’s birthday was January 1st.

When we got back from the mall, we met up with some of the crew to discuss ideas for the video shoot; sifting through ideas to come up with extra shots and scenes. Then, later on that night I did a photo shoot with Tejai Moore for his album ‘Write my Wrongs’; which followed with photo editing late into the night, and lastly some sleep. Check out some of the sample of the photo shoot in the gallery below, you can also view the full set HERE.

Day 2

When I say “some sleep ”, I mean the same 3 hours I often get, day in and day out. Late nights and early mornings is normal for me, and this time was no exception. I woke up to immediately continue my editing and then…..Early morning hunger turns into a $50 order of Krystal mini chili dogs, mini burgers, mini chicken burgers, and mini wings………. I haven’t seen a Krystals in years, don’t judge me.

Preparation for the day happened around 2:30 pm, and our first stop was at Party City, to pick up red table cloths for lighting effects. Next we headed to the liquor store to buy vodka and Hennessy for the music video shoot. After that we headed home for some pregame fun and food. But in order for me to make it through the night, I knew I had to take a nap, which I then did until about 8:30 p.m. After I woke up, I gathered up all my camera equipment ( Samsung NX1 DSLR, 3DR Solo Drone) and headed over to the music video location, which was a warehouse in downtown Atlanta, with the rest of the crew. Everyone was ready for a fun night of filming and creating.

This time around I was not filming the actual movie, but creating the behind the scenes video. It was a good experience to witness one being created, without actually doing it myself, and learn how others think and do things. The night consisted of a repeated cycle of filming a scene for the music video, followed by a quick BTS talk with Tejai Moore and Jay Mo, explaining the scene that was just filmed; ending with a break before starting the next.

I had an awesome time filming and being around friends that I have known half of my life, since my high school days in Germany, while also making new ones as well. The video took a total of 4 hours to film; after cleaning up the set and saying our goodbyes to a few people, the crew headed out to a restaurant called the Chinese Buddha for food, to close off the night. I had General Tso’s chicken, Wonton soup, egg rolls and fried rice. The food was actually really good, and after a lot of laughs and great conversation with some great friends we decided to head home, and I went straight to sleep.

Day 3

After waking up on 2/25/18, the rest of the day wasn’t as exciting as the last two; it was my last here, as I was later heading back to Austin. At least with a ton of awesome memories though, and loads of work to do. My LYFT ride to the airport was with my boy Perry, which included enjoyable conversation filled with lots of depth about culture. I slept 2 hours on the plane, which was 2 hours delayed, due to having to wait for another crew from another flight. I arrived in Austin around 5 p.m. and shortly after headed to work; in very tired state, I might add.

All in all, my very first trip to Georgia was a fun, smooth and complete success. Until next time…..
