Day 1
Started on Saturday morning, and it started off pretty bad. I had overslept, my car was towed, and I barely made it to the airport on time, but none the less I made it. I arrived at 5:45 AM and went through TSA without a hitch; just in time to board my flight leaving at 6:30 AM. I flew straight to Newark, NJ and slept through the whole flight, as I had only slept about 3 hours the day before.
Once in Newark, I had to head to the air-train to get to the airport train station. From there I got on the NJ Transit for a 30 minute ride to Manhattan. Taking the train was way easier and faster than I thought it would be going it alone. It was made even easier once I realized that the last stop the NJ Transit makes is New York Penn Station, which was my stop. From the New York Penn Station I took a LYFT to Yonkers to meet up with Tejai, JC, Chris and Q at the air bnb we were staying at. Tejai is the artist / singer, JC is his entertainment manager, Chris is his business manager, and Q is his road manager. After catching up with each other and joking around like always, we headed to the venue where the Independent Image & Artist Awards were being held. The cool thing about this award ceremoy was that it was the very first one ever! Hosted by TalkItOut Radio LLC, it is held to honor some of the worlds most influential leaders and independent artist from all corners of the globe. We ended up arriving early, and waiting there for an hour and a half for no reason. There was supposed to be a sound check happening at 2 p.m., but there was another party going on at the venue until 4. Which was all due to miscommunication by the event coordinator. We decided to head back to the hotel to get some food to kill time and decided on pizza because New York of course.
We headed back to the venue around 6:30 pm. I mingled around with the crew and met some new faces, including the Makogirls, Saint Even, and DJ Swurv. I also took tons of photos and did my film thing for a few performances, listened to some great artists and saw a great fashion show. By the end of the night Tejai picked up two awards; one for best music video of the year and the triple threat award for singer, writer and producer of the year. After what started off bad, ended up awesome, and we all headed back to the air bnb post the award show. After recapping the night and fun we had,we all headed to bed. I had an extremely early flight back to Austin, which left at 6 am. This was truly the shortest trip I have been on, but was a good one to be around old friends, and to gain a few new ones. Until next time New York.
