The Best Coffee Farm in Costa Rica

Updated: Jun 5

Costa Rica, a Central American country known for its lush rainforests, stunning beaches, and vibrant culture, had always been on my travel bucket list. After much contemplation, I finally decided to take the plunge and embark on a solo trip to this paradise. I couldn't have chosen a better place to stay than Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Farm and Inn. This was a unusual trip for me also, I usually travel with someone, but this time around I built up the courage to tackle this one alone.

Getting There

I flew into Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose, the capital city of Costa Rica. From there, it was about a 30-minute drive to Finca Rosa Blanca. The hotel had arranged a shuttle for me, which made my journey smooth and hassle-free. As I arrived at the property, I was welcomed by a stunning view of the lush coffee plantations that stretched across the hillside. The greeting from the staff was welcoming, and included a drink and a tour of the gift shop, restaurant, and lobby.

Accommodation

Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Farm and Inn offers eight unique rooms, each with its own character and charm. I was staying in the El Cielo Suite, which was a spacious room with a private balcony overlooking the coffee plantations. The room was beautifully decorated with local art, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The en-suite bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub, which was perfect for a relaxing soak after a long day of exploring. The one thing I appreciated the most about this room is that there was no television, and I had such a good time just enjoying the space and nature around me. At night I left the windows opened, just to hear the sound of the wild animals and rain against the suite. My favorite spot was the balcony, where I enjoyed the warmth of the jacuzzi and the amazing view. Check out the video below to see a full tour of El Cielo Suite.

Food

The hotel had an on-site restaurant that served delicious meals made with locally sourced ingredients. The breakfast spread was particularly impressive, with fresh fruit, homemade pastries, and the most delicious coffee I had ever tasted. The restaurant also offered a farm-to-table dinner experience, which I highly recommend trying. I didn't eat any food here that I did not like. From breakfast yogurt, cheese and veggie omelette, ceviche, and steak sandwiches, everything was excellent. This also gave me a really good chance at practicing my spanish when interacting with the staff, and it seemed like they appreciated the gesture.

Activities

There was no shortage of things to do at Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Farm and Inn. The hotel offered coffee plantation tours, birdwatching tours, and cooking classes. I mainly took this trip as a chance to just relax and enjoy some alone time so I didn't venture out much aside from going to a couple restaurants to eat. One of my favorite things I did was get a professional Swedish massage at the on site spa named El Targua. It was my first time getting a professional massage, it was an hour long massage, which included relaxing aromas, and soft music to relax you a bit. All in all the total was fairly cheap at about $60, and you do have the option to tip as well. Another great thing about this property is that it is family owned, and you can even tour the original house built for the family.

Beyond the hotel, there were plenty of things to do in the surrounding areas. Including the Poas Volcano National Park, which is only a short drive from the hotel. I was told the views of the volcano were breathtaking, and the hiking trails were a great way to explore the area. There is also a nearby town named Heredia, which has a vibrant market selling everything from fresh produce to handmade crafts.

Overall, my trip to Costa Rica and stay at Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Farm and Inn was an unforgettable experience. The hotel's location in the heart of the coffee plantations was a unique and peaceful setting, and the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Costa Rica and looking for a unique and authentic experience.
