Kicking off the new year with another production featuring my brother Tejai Moore and new friend Swagger Splash and their newest song called Miss DJ! This trip to Atlanta was a short weekend filled mostly with planning and filming.
Day 1
Trip started off on Friday with a late morning flight at 11 am headed directly to Atlanta from Austin. I usually try to book early flights as the Austin airport usually is pretty quiet during those times, and it is a breeze to get through the TSA security, which I normally never spend more than 15 minutes waiting. Upon arriving to Atlanta I took a quick 30 minute Uber ride to the Air BnB we all were staying at and filming in also. I made it there before everyone else and settled in after the owner let me in and finished cleaning the place up. So yall know how much I like to eat so I had to order food because I'm just always ready for a good meal. So I decided to order some Chinese take out from China 1. I ordered enough food for everyone to eat once they arrived, including sweet and sour chicken, chicken fried rice, Szechuan chicken, General Tso's chicken, and sesame chicken. Tejai and Swagger Splash arrived a few moments later, and we decided after we eat we were going to film a quick music video for their song entitled Hakuna Matata and then go over plans for filming tomorrow. For this quick music video shoot I used the Samsung NX1, with an adapter for a Canon 24MM ultrasonic lens, and the Mavic Air to shoot some overhead scenes. These trips are always very special to me because I get to work with people I grew up with. As some of you may know Tejai Moore and I went to the same high school In Vilseck Germany, and we have also been filming music movies together for a few years now. I find it important to be able to connect with your people, and when you can get together and work on projects together its just a cool feeling. For this project I was only filming the behind the scenes while the actual music video was being filmed by Queen of Qii (pronounced key) Films based in Atlanta Georgia. The plan for this shoot was very simple, we were going for a house party feel, which is easy to do when you also plan to actually have a party. Nothing too crazy though as we would still be filming short interview shots throughout the shoot. After discussing plans with Queen, Tejai, and Swagger Splash, we all just kind of chilled and kicked back and caught up on old times between Tejai and I, before heading to bed.
Day 2
I'm a night owl so I'm used to sleeping during the day and being up all night, but today I had to get up early. I slept a solid four hours and was up by 8 am. The plan was to start filming by noon, as we planned to film all the solo shots of Tejai and Swagger first, then as the paid extras arrived we would start the party by 4 PM. Around 9 AM some of the homies started to arrive including some old homies Chazzy, Beware, Q Smoke,Justin, Vanessa, and Aiden. Vanessa was generous enough to make breakfast for us all, which included eggs, sausage, bacon, and biscuits. After breakfast I made sure all of my equipment was ready to go for filming, then I sat around for a bit watching the homies play some NBA 2K. Queen and another old friend DJ Samore So Urban arrived around 11, and the crew started setting up the lights to start shooting the solo shots of Tejai and Swagger. Once Samore started spinning a little while after the cameras were rolling. I really liked these solo scenes as they were lit with red and green lights and it really made the video pop with color.
Several scenes later the crowd of extras started to arrive, and we began filming the main scenes of the video. For these scenes we moved all of the furniture into the garage and turned the living room into a dance floor, and the kitchen and bar area into a performance stage. The first sequence of shots were used as a soul train line dance off, with the extras showing off their moves in the traditional line dance. The point of these shot sequences were to show off the fun party vibes, with close to mid range shots to show the crowd and the performers dancing. Next we filmed shots of the group as a whole throughout the living room area just dancing or having a good time. Following those shots we continued with a live performance from Splash Moore, which started in the kitchen with everyone crowded crowded around, and then they even move to the top of the bar section and turned it into a stage, it really was a coolant simple set, but it felt like an actual live performance rather than a video shoot. This concluded the scenes we were shooting for, and we allowed the party to die down about an hour later, and then came the part no one likes, the clean up :(.
All in all it was an awesome shoot, and I'm always grateful to be able to work with people I grew up with, and a few I met on the way, and new friends, its always a treat to work with my people. Sunday morning was my return flight home, and I left Atlanta feeling grateful for the opportunities to travel, film, and do dope shit with my people. Until next time, stay tuned for the opportunity to Catch Caerus.
